How to send money to Airtel and MTN mobile wallets in Uganda

What is Airtel Money?

Airtel Money is an electronic money wallet service that works on your mobile phone allowing users to send and receive money in Uganda. How can I register for Airtel Money?

What is MTN mobile money?

MTN Mobile Money is often referred to as MoMo. It’s a simple mobile money solution that can be used in both Africa and the Middle East. Users can top up their MTN Mobile Money accounts with cash at various locations nationwide or send and receive money locally and internationally. You don’t need to have a bank account in order to use MTN Mobile Money.

Now you can receive money in Uganda, send cash to other MoMo users or even make withdrawals at an authorised MTN Mobile Money agent. You could also purchase airtime or pay for your monthly bills or school fees.

How to Activate Airtel and MTN Money

Airtel:

Activating Airtel Money is a simple process. All you need is an Airtel SIM card and a valid ID (National ID, passport, or driving licence). Once you have these, follow these simple steps below:

Dial *185# on your mobile phone
Select option 1 (Open an Account)
Enter your details as prompted by the system
Create a secret PIN (4 digits) and confirm it
Wait for an SMS confirming that your account has been activated

MTN Mobile Money:

To activate MTN Mobile Money, simply follow these easy steps:

Dial *165# on your mobile phone
Select option 1 (Mobile Money)
Select option 1 (Activate)
Enter your details as prompted by the system
Create a secret PIN (4 digits) and confirm it
Wait for an SMS confirming that your account has been activated
