Ramadan is a sacred time of reflection, prayer, generosity and unity. It is a month that brings families and communities closer together — a time to give, to support one another, and to strengthen the bonds that matter most.
For many of our customers, Ramadan is also a time of responsibility. It’s when money is sent home to help with food, school fees, Eid preparations, and Zakat. It’s a reminder that even when families are separated by borders, they remain connected through care and support.
At Mama Money, we are deeply aware of the role we play in these moments. We see the sacrifices, the discipline, and the intention behind every transfer. That’s why this year, we wanted to give back in a way that reflects the spirit of the month.
This Ramadan, Mama Money stands with communities both near and far.
As families send support across borders, we are proud to also show up locally — in our mosques, on our airwaves, and in our communities. With humility and gratitude, we commit to being more than just a financial service. We are part of the community, and we stand alongside you during this special time.
Ramadan is about more than individual giving — it is about strengthening the communities around us. This year, Mama Money is committing over R50,000 in direct donations to support vulnerable communities across Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban.
Our approach is simple: partner with trusted organisations, be transparent about our contributions, and show up with sincerity.
Cape Town – Voice of the Cape (VOC)
Mama Money is donating R20,000 through a special on-air Ramadan initiative with Voice of the Cape. During the breakfast show, listeners are invited to nominate local organisations in need. Each week, selected organisations will receive R5,000 donations, presented through live cheque handovers.
This initiative ensures that support reaches real community organisations, identified by the community itself.
Radio Islam International Outreach
In partnership with Radio Islam International, Mama Money is contributing R20,000 to support their community outreach programme. A formal cheque handover will mark the occasion, reinforcing our shared commitment to serving those in need during this sacred month.
Newcastle, Durban – Muslim School Support
An additional R5,000 donation will go to a Muslim school in Newcastle, Durban, helping to support education and community development at a grassroots level.
Additional Regional Organisations (TBC)
We are also engaging with additional community organisations across our key regions to extend our impact even further.
At every step, our focus is on trust, transparency, and genuine partnership. We are working with established community voices and institutions to ensure that the support provided makes a meaningful difference.
Ramadan teaches us that giving should be intentional and accountable. Through these partnerships, Mama Money is proud to stand alongside trusted community organisations and contribute in a way that reflects the true spirit of the month.
This Ramadan, our support goes beyond donations. Mama Money agents will be present at selected mosques across Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban, working alongside communities during the sacred time of Iftar.
Our teams will assist with Iftar preparations, helping to organise and support the evening meal. As families and worshippers gather to break their fast, Mama Money agents will respectfully hand out dates and water at sunset, contributing in a small but meaningful way to the moment.
These visits are not about promotion — they are about presence. Our agents engage respectfully with community members, offering assistance where needed and building relationships grounded in trust. Any brand visibility is subtle and appropriate, ensuring the focus remains on the sanctity of Ramadan.
This is what we mean by fintech with a human face. Mama Money is not just a digital service used on a phone — we are part of the communities we serve. By showing up at grassroots level, we reinforce our commitment to being a community-first brand, rooted in real relationships and shared values.
Ramadan is about connection, and through these mosque activations, we are honoured to stand side by side with the people who trust us every day.
While we focus on supporting local communities, we also recognise that for many families, Ramadan giving stretches far beyond South Africa’s borders.
Ramadan is one of the most important months for Zakat and Sadaqah. It is a time when generosity increases, when families look out for one another, and when those who are able to give do so with intention and sincerity.
For many migrants living and working in South Africa, this means sending money home to:
These transfers are more than financial transactions. They are acts of care, responsibility, and faith.
That’s why affordability and reliability matter. With low, transparent fees, strong exchange rates, and safe, secure transfers, Mama Money helps ensure that more of your support reaches the people who need it. Our easy-to-use app makes it simple to send money quickly and with confidence, even during busy periods.
During Ramadan, every rand counts. Our role is to make sure your giving goes further — safely, simply, and with peace of mind.
When you give Zakat or send support during Ramadan, your intention is clear — you want your contribution to make a real difference. That’s why affordability matters. High transfer fees or poor exchange rates can reduce the amount that actually reaches your loved ones or the organisations you’re supporting.
Even small savings on transfer fees can add up. The less you pay in costs, the more your family receives for food, school fees, Eid preparations, or community support. In a month where generosity is so meaningful, every rand saved on fees is a rand that can be used where it matters most.
There’s also peace of mind in knowing your money will arrive safely and on time. Fast, secure delivery helps ensure that your support reaches its destination when it’s needed — without added stress or uncertainty.
If you're sending support this Ramadan, the Mama Money app makes it simple, affordable, and secure.
Ramadan reminds us that giving is most powerful when it is done with intention. This year, Mama Money is honoured to support communities locally — through our partnerships, mosque activations, and regional donations — while continuing to make it easier for families to support loved ones across borders.
From Johannesburg to Cape Town, Durban and beyond, we are committed to showing up — not only as a financial service, but as a trusted community partner. Whether it’s assisting with Iftar preparations at a local mosque or helping a family send Zakat home with confidence, our purpose remains the same: to make a meaningful difference.
Because giving should be simple. It should be transparent. And it should reach the people who need it most.
Mama Money. Mama Makes It Happen.
