Yes — and not just safe, but transparent. Mama Money is a regulated financial services provider that has been moving money across Africa and Asia for over 10 years and has processed millions of transfers. Every transfer is tracked through secure payment infrastructure, you can follow its progress in real time in the Mama Money app, and we'll send you an SMS confirmation when your family receives the funds. You've worked hard for every rand. Sending it home should feel secure, not stressful.
All the major ones — and most of the smaller ones too. Mama Money supports direct transfers to State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Punjab National Bank, Bank of India, Canara Bank, Bank of Baroda, Union Bank of India, and many more regional and cooperative banks across the country. Whether your family is in Mumbai or a rural village, the money goes straight to their account — no travel, no queues, no waiting. For recipients without a bank account, cash pickup through Western Union and Muthoot Finance is also available.
A competitive one — and you'll see it before you commit to anything. The live ZAR to INR rate is shown in the Mama Money app the moment you enter your send amount, along with the exact rupees your family will receive and the flat transfer fee. No hidden margins, no rate revealed only after you've paid. We keep our rates competitive so more of every rand you earn reaches home.

You can pay by EFT or online banking from your South African bank account, or in cash at any of our retail partners — Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Spar, Makro, Game, Flash stores, and more. Cash payments are quick: we send you a reference number by SMS, you take it to the store and pay the exact amount, and your transfer gets moving straight away. Whichever method you choose, your money starts its journey to India fast; no delays, no waiting around.
See the full breakdown of payment methods and transfer times in our India fees and transfer times guide.
Fast. Most transfers to Indian bank accounts arrive within 5 hours — direct to your family's account, no collection required. In some cases, it can take up to 48 hours depending on the receiving bank, but that's the exception, not the rule. If your family needs cash in hand even faster, transfers to Western Union and Muthoot Finance collection points are available within minutes.
Once your account is activated, you can send up to R25,000 per day and R25,000 per month.
Need to send more? Mama Money has a higher limit tier available. South African ID holders can upgrade to R50,000 per day and R100,000 per month. If you hold a foreign passport, asylum, or refugee document, you can send R25,000 per day and up to 75% of your proven monthly income. To upgrade, tap "Increase Limits" in the Mama Money app and follow the instructions — you'll receive an SMS confirming your new limits once approved.
