The Mama Money Card just got more useful. From today, your Card works with Spotify for monthly music, with Checkers Sixty60 for grocery delivery, and with InDrive for rides across town. And it's not just those three. Any service that charges your Card at the end (rather than asking you to pay upfront) now runs smoothly through your Wallet.
If you've ever added your Mama Money Card to one of these apps and had the payment declined, that's exactly what has changed. This guide walks through what's new, which services now work, and how to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Some apps you use don't ask you to pay upfront. Spotify charges you once a month for your music. Uber, Bolt, and InDrive charge you at the end of the ride, once the fare has been worked out. Sixty60 charges you after your groceries have been picked and packed. In each case, the app needs to charge your card after the service, not before it.
Until recently, this kind of "pay later" charge didn't always go through on the Mama Money Card. Now it does. Your Card can be charged at any point once you've linked it to an app, whether that's a few minutes after your ride or once a month for your music.
The short version
The same Card, the same Wallet, the same low monthly fee. Only the range of apps you can pay with has grown. If you already have a Mama Money Card, you don't need to do anything to enable this. It just works.
Here are the big ones you can now add your Mama Money Card to, split by what you'd use them for.
Spotify
Monthly music
Set up your Spotify Premium subscription to charge your Card each month. No more losing your playlists because the payment didn't clear.
Checkers Sixty60
Groceries in an hour
Add your Card to Sixty60 and get groceries delivered to your door. The Card is charged once your order is confirmed and packed.
InDrive
Cashless rides
Skip the cash and pay your InDrive fare straight from your Card. The Card is charged when the driver ends the ride.
Uber
Rides and Eats
Uber has worked with the Card for a while, and continues to. Rides, Uber Eats, all fine.
Bolt
Rides across SA
Add your Card in the Bolt payments section and pay every ride cashlessly.
Takealot, Shein
Online shopping
Both continue to work as always. Your Card at checkout, same as any other card. See our full guide to shopping online with the Card.
These streaming services have their own card-acceptance rules that the Mama Money Card is not currently on. If your streaming subscription matters, keep a second card for those services. Everything else on the list above works.
When you add your Card to Spotify, Sixty60, or a ride-hailing app, the app saves your Card details on file. It doesn't take any money at that moment. The charge comes later, when there's an actual bill to pay.
For Spotify, that's once a month on your billing date. For Uber, Bolt, or InDrive, that's the moment your driver ends the ride. For Sixty60, that's when your groceries are confirmed. In each case, the app pulls the money from your Wallet through the Card. If there's enough in your Wallet, the payment goes through and you get a notification. If there isn't, the payment fails and the app will ask you to sort it out.
Because these apps charge you later, the one thing you need to keep an eye on is your Wallet balance. Three habits are enough.
More apps. Same Card. Music, groceries, rides, and shopping, all paid from your Wallet.
